Aprilia RSV4 upgrades
Aprilia built the RSV4 as a race bike it happened to homologate, then kept a factory race-parts catalog alive next to it. The V4 exhaust note alone sells more slip-ons than any spec sheet — and twenty years of superbike racing means the setup knowledge runs deep.
Spec plate & generations
Claimed figures and the generation map. The year splits decide whether a part fits.

Generation map
- RSV4 R / Factory2009–2014
The original 999.6 cc 65° V4, ~180 hp claimed; WSBK-title chassis (2010, 2012, 2014). A cult platform with its own parts catalog — almost nothing carries forward to 2015+.
- RSV4 RR / RF2015–2018
Heavily revised engine and chassis, ~201 hp claimed. RF = limited trim with Öhlins and forged wheels. 2017 brought the Euro4 update plus refinements; parts fitment is largely continuous across 2015–18.
- RSV4 1100 Factory · RR2019–2020
The showroom split: the 1100 Factory jumped to 1,078 cc (~217 hp claimed) with winglets, while the RSV4 RR kept the 999 engine. Same model year, two different engines — listings that just say '2019 RSV4' are ambiguous.
- RSV4 10992021–2024
Full redesign: 1,099 cc (~217 hp claimed), new bodywork with integrated aero, revised swingarm and electronics. Factory trim adds Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension and forged wheels. 2015–20 bodywork and bolt-ons do not fit.
- 2025 refresh2025–present
Updated aero and electronics package on the 1099 platform. Most 2021–24 hard parts carry over; nose bodywork and winglets are where to double-check fitment.
Street path & track path
Two ordered sequences for the same machine. The order is the advice: spend where the next problem is, not where the catalog is loudest.
Street path
Tail tidy and sliders
Fender eliminator, frame sliders, axle sliders. V4 engine cases are expensive castings — protection before glamour.
Slip-on for the V4 sound
SC-Project GP70-R is the signature look; Akrapovič builds the factory-catalog systems. This is the one bike where 'exhaust for sound alone' is a defensible line item.
Levers, grips, screen
ASV/CRG levers, tank grips, and a double-bubble screen — the stock bubble is race-low for street ergonomics.
Decat + tune together
Removing the cat or full system without a tune brings the CEL and exhaust-servo faults. Bundle the flash or race map with the exhaust — never separately.
Set the suspension
Even Öhlins-equipped trims leave the factory sprung generic. Sag and springs for your weight — on 2021+ Factory semi-active, spring changes still apply; electronics don't replace spring rate.
Track path
Tires and warmers
The V4 shreds street rubber at pace — DOT race tires minimum, slicks with warmers once you're in the fast group.
Brake prep
Stock Brembos (M50 or Stylema by year) want race pads, braided lines, fresh fluid and a lever guard — hardware swaps can wait indefinitely.
Spring for weight, then valving
Base/RR bikes take standard Öhlins/K-Tech cartridge and shock work. 2021+ Factory Smart EC 2.0 bikes still need correct springs — talk to a tuner who knows the semi-active hardware.
Crash economics
GB Racing-style case covers, sliders and race bodywork. Fairing fitment splits 2009–14 / 2015–20 / 2021+, and the 2019–20 Factory winglets complicate late-teens listings.
Ergonomics
Rearsets (Bonamici, Gilles, Lightech all catalog the RSV4) and clip-on adjustment. The stock triangle is already aggressive — this step is about adjustability, not radicalization.
Full system, race map, gearing
Akrapovič/SC-Project full system with a matched map, 520 conversion, per-track sprockets. With ~217 claimed hp the engine is the last thing that needs money.
Parts notes for the RSV4
What fits and what the community runs, category by category. Typical street prices sit at the other end of the links.
Exhaust
Akrapovič supplies the factory race-catalog systems; SC-Project GP70-R is the aftermarket signature. Fitment splits hard at 2021 (new bodywork and routing) and 2019 (1100 vs 999 in the same showroom). Decat without a tune means CEL plus servo faults.

Tune
Less mail-in flash culture than Japanese liter bikes: the routes are a dealer/specialist flash, or Aprilia's race ECU for track-only bikes. AF1 Racing is the long-standing US parts-and-knowledge hub for the platform.

Suspension
Know your trim: RR/base = manual Sachs/Öhlins by year, RF/Factory = Öhlins mechanical, 2021+ Factory = Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active. Semi-active still needs rider-weight springs; K-Tech and Öhlins both support the platform.

Brakes
Every gen ships serious Brembo hardware — M50s, then Stylemas. Spend on Z04-class pads, lines, fluid and a lever guard. A master-cylinder upgrade only makes sense on earlier gens still running the axial-era feel.

Tires & Wheels
RF and Factory trims already carry forged wheels; base/RR owners chasing turn-in buy forged aluminum (OZ, Marchesini). Verify front/rear axle specs by generation before ordering.

Levers
ASV/CRG fitment is gen-specific; the Italian billet brands (Lightech, Bonamici) list the RSV4 across generations. Lever guards required for track duty.

Crash Protection
V4 cases and that swingarm are expensive — case covers, frame and axle sliders are step-one money. Coverage is good across GB Racing, R&G and the Italian billet houses.

Bodywork
Race fairing fitment: 2009–14, 2015–20 and 2021+ are three different bikes; 2019–20 Factory winglets add a wrinkle inside the middle window. Carbon street parts from Fullsix and Ilmberger catalog the RSV4 heavily.

Electronics
APRC set the class benchmark — TC, wheelie, launch, engine maps are all on board. The add-on path is data (AiM Solo 2 DL) and, on pre-2021 bikes, the factory-accessory GPS module.

Gotchas & fitment traps
The year splits and part quirks that eat money on this platform.
Cross-model interchange
Community-reported. Paddock folk knowledge, not manufacturer fitment data. Verify part numbers for your exact year and market before spending.
- Tuono V4 shares engine and chassis architecture with the same-era RSV4 — community-reported crossover on engine covers, drivetrain, and many engine-adjacent parts; bodywork and ergonomics differ.
- 2019–20 RSV4 RR kept the 2015–18 999 engine — community-reported that many 2015–18 engine-adjacent parts carry to the 19–20 RR, but not to the 1100 Factory sold beside it.
- Factory-trim takeoff Öhlins (pre-2021 mechanical) is a community-favored budget upgrade for base/RR bikes of matching generation — verify lengths and spring rates.
Aprilia RSV4 FAQ
What changed on the 2021 Aprilia RSV4?
Nearly everything: 1,099 cc engine (~217 hp claimed), new bodywork with built-in aero, revised swingarm and updated electronics, plus Smart EC 2.0 semi-active Öhlins on the Factory. Treat 2021+ as a separate platform when buying parts.
Will parts from a 2015–2020 RSV4 fit a 2021+?
Generally no — bodywork, exhausts, rearsets and protection are all redesign-specific. Some controls and universal hardware cross; check each listing for explicit 2021+ fitment.
Does the RSV4 need a tune after an exhaust?
A cat-retaining slip-on runs fine. Decat mid-pipes and full systems trigger the CEL and exhaust-servo faults, so pair them with a flash or race map from the start.
Is the RSV4 Factory worth it over the base bike?
If you'll use the suspension, yes — Öhlins (semi-active from 2021) and forged wheels bought aftermarket cost more than the trim gap. If you're building a dedicated track bike with your own suspension plan, the base bike is the smarter core.
Which RSV4 years should a used buyer look at carefully?
2009–14 bikes deserve a charging-system check and a parts-availability reality check; 2019–20 requires confirming whether you're looking at a 999 RR or an 1100 Factory. 2015–18 RR/RF is the sweet spot of price, parts and modern electronics.
