Brakes

Pads, braided lines, and a radial master cylinder — roughly in that order of cost, and close to that order of feel. Rotors and calipers are the deep end for riders who cook the stock hardware.

The decision

Pads and braided lines fix a mushy lever for under $300 on most bikes. A radial master cylinder (the Brembo RCS is the reference point) changes lever feel more than any caliper swap. Race pads and oversize rotors are for track riders overheating stockers, not for the parking lot.

Dependencies. New lines mean a full fluid bleed. Race pads need heat and healthy rotors to work — they can feel worse than street pads on a cold commute.
